Welcome to part 2 of our series “Farmhouse X Mid-Century Modern” where we’re sharing our own transition from farmhouse to mid-century modern and the steps we’re taking to get there. In this episode we are sharing specifically what we plan to do in our living room space to achieve that look we want.

I’m not going to sugar coat this…paint colors are obnoxiously overwhelming and can feel like you’re stepping into some psychedelic dream when you walk into the paint section of your local home improvement store (way too many paint samples am I right?). BUT ALAS, I am here to help save the day so the next time you can walk STRAIGHT to that paint counter and order your color like a BOSS!

I think rugs are in and of themselves a piece of art and that’s why I’m sharing with you some of our favorite vintage styled rugs!

Well, I’m happy to announce that I have come to somewhat of a compromise to all of this and couldn’t be happier with the direction that we have decided to go in.

Yes, it’s true…after just over two years of having refinished our floors we decided to jump head first into the tedious task once more to get our floors JUST how we wanted them. But WHY did we have to refinish them in the first place we have gotten asked a few times…

Our hope is that through this we can teach you about what characterizes the two different design styles and how you can implement your old with you new, as well as, simple and easy ways you can start transitioning your own space today.

We are so excited to have you here! We are Guy & Tessa Kirby and we are the faces behind Kindred Homestead! If you don’t already know, Kindred Homestead is an interior design and restoration company for the modern family. Through a combination of onsite and virtual services, we’re here to help clients create a space they long to be in.

I am super excited to have partnered with Pottery Barn Kids and PB Teen on this gender neutral space; together they allowed us to creatively and magically design a space that fit both kids needs. My intention and desire for this room was to give both kids a fun “learning & growing” corner, as well as, a sweet and gender neutral bedding refresh that complimented my daughters femininity with my sons “rough and tumble” character. It am so excited with how it all turned out! I have linked all the product at the bottom of this post! 

When it comes to outside landscape and decor, I get EXTREMELY overwhelmed. Like not just a little bit but A LOT a bit. I never know what to choose, or how to pair different plants; what needs sun and what needs shade, how much water to give and how do you know when it’s time to “feed” them again. You see what I’m saying? It’s just A LOT to think about and often times just the thought of it can deter you from it all together.

Is it officially spring yet?? Well, even if it isn’t, my house is busting through the seems with spring greenery. I have had the honor and privilege of partnering up with my very favorite home & gardens store here in Champaign, IL, Prairie Gardens, to bring you a very easy and effortless way to bring spring to YOU even if it doesn’t always feel like it outside. 

I wanted this space to be one that reflected neutrality, and comfort while still reflecting affordability. I know how expensive these spaces can be and that is why I hope to share with you some of my buying secrets so you too can achieve an affordable space like this!

For the longest time I was wanting to do floor to ceiling board and batten walls and so when it came time to start thinking about nursery details I called in a favor from my hubby to make this vision come to life. And like always, he did NOT disappoint. We will be doing a tutorial soon here so that you guys can take the board and batten plunge if your heart so desires!

A couple weeks ago I shared our Living Room Makeover [HERE] and in that I shared one of my simpliest, cheapest, and easiest DIY creations yet…the DIY Hoop Wreath. Over the last year these wreaths have become the trendiest form of minimalist decor on the market.

You know when you’ve been staring at the same thing for so long that after a while you just need to change it up for it to not look so…THE SAME anymore!? Well, that is exactly what happened to me with our living room; after a deep cleaning day GONE WRONG, I decided it was time for a change.

This has been a long time coming it seems! But it's finally here! Our 2nd (technically 3rd) flip house is done and ready to meet one very lucky owner! Check out all the before pictures [HERE]. This home is located in the center of Champaign right across the street from a recreation center, park, water park and petting zoo. Not to mention it's in walking distance to many of the local schools! 

I've been keeping this a secret for a while and I don't even know why! Probably because it all happened so fast and I honestly with projects still going on at my own home this just completely threw me (hence why you haven't see our bathroom remodel yet)! 

Here we go again! Am I right? If you've stuck around my blog long enough you probably aren't surprised that we are already starting another project.
