DIY Fun Green Wreaths
For a long time I have wanted to buy a couple of fern wreaths to brighten up my living room but I could never get myself to pay the price they are asking for in the stores. Like I’ve mentioned in my previous DIY blog, I am somewhat of a bargain shopper, so anything that looks like it can easily be made BUT has an overpriced tag attached to it gives me a bad taste in my mouth. I recently ran across a fellow DIY-er that blogged about how she made her own wreath and I thought….what the heck, I’m going to give it a try. And once I started I couldn’t stop! The process is so easy AND not to mention affordable, I had to share it with the rest of you!
The first trip I made to get my supplies for this project was to Michael’s Craft store (that place can suck me in for hours). There I bought: floral wire, garland (I bought the one that was on sale), and a spool of fine wire. That’s it!
To start this process you are going to want to make a circle with your floral wire, and make sure you have a good pair of wire cutters for this project because floral wire is pretty tough stuff to cut through! I knew that I would be completing this project more than once so for this first go around I decided to make a larger wreath for one of my windows in my living room. I did my best to smooth out all the bumps in the wire and make it as circle shaped as I knew how.
After that, I took my garland and began wrapping it around the circle shaped wire until I had wrapped it around to the place I had started. At that point I took my spool of fine wire, cut off a 3 in. piece and tied that around my beginning and end piece of garland. And VOILA you’re done! At that point you can fluff your wreath how ever you want! It’s really that simple!
Since I couldn’t believe how easy this project was, I headed back out to one of my equally favorite stores here in Champaign, Prairie Gardens. There I bought some more garland, this time I bought floral garland as well (it was too pretty and CHEAP not to pass up)!
I followed the same steps as listed above and it was just as simple as the first time around! What I love about these fun wreaths is that they are incredibly versatile. You can hang them just about anywhere or set them on a table and stick a candle in the middle and use them as center piece! This is seriously such a fun, easy, quick, and affordable project, you’re not going to want to miss out on this DIY win!
