Life With Zion: Week One
Pictures by: Magnolia Rayne Photography
Well folks, its officially been over ONE week with our Zion Thomas and I couldn’t be more in love. If you stopped in to check out my nursery reveal [HERE] or if you are a follower of mine on Instagram [HERE] then you probably already know a little bit about our traumatic experience with Zion’s birth. I would love to tell the birth story someday, and I suspect that day will come sooner than later but I want to thank so many of you that have reached out offering words of encouragement and sympathies. It seems there are many “c-section warriors” with a very similar story and hurt. I hope I can be a voice in the dark for those of you who have felt defeated by your own c-section birth story.
However strained my thoughts may be of that night, it does not negate the sheer joy and love I feel when I look at my son. I know he is a great gift and I am so blessed to be his mother. This past week has been pure joy, chaos, bliss, and frustration. Like many of you parents with multiples know, there is always a bit (or more) of transition time for each of the older kids when a new baby is thrown into the mix. Honestly this time around, I had totally forgotten about all that until I got home and witnessed the seemingly malevolent behavior of my two middle children. I knew right then and there we were going to have our work cut out for us for sure!
Life With Zion: Week One
As the week has faded, and the newness has worn off, I have noticed a slight bend in their behavior; but just slightly. There are so many mixed emotions for them, especially for my two year old. This foreign “alien-like thing” is soaking up so much of my attention and it strains her. Whether she realizes it or not, I see it. She has no real attachment to Zion, not like the other two (who are obnoxiously obsessed with the little guy). And I don’t push her to. I know when the time comes she is going to love on this little brother of hers like her life depends on it.
On the other hand, the two eldest are smitten with their new brother. There is nothing but pure and honest love flowing out of their little hearts and it makes me a little weepy to watch them fight over who gets to hold him next, or get the next kiss.
As for our Zion, he is getting along just perfectly! He has such an amazing disposition and I am constantly in awe of his sweetness. He doesn’t fuss or cry, he merely wails out for a moment or sucks his thumb (or fingers). He sleeps rather well and gives me a good 3-4 hours between feedings. Other than that, I have been soaking up as much of this newborn stage as I possibly can. I hold him constantly; taking in all of the glorious newborn smells and relishing in the fact that he can’t get away from me when I smother him in kisses.
Thank you to everyone that has checked in on us throughout this week! We are so deeply indebted to your generosity and support during this time of transition. And as always, thank you for stopping by! xoxo, Tessa
