What’s A Realistic Renovation Budget? - Kitchen
In one of our more recent posts “The FAQ We Hate To Answer” we talk a lot about what you can realistically expect financially for a kitchen & bathroom renovation.
But I thought I’d break this down a little bit more so the next time you go to budget for your kitchen renovation you can get as specific as possible! To recap, renovations are not a one size fits all kind of thing. There are multiple factors that play into the overall cost of a kitchen renovation {see here for complete list}.
For example: for our flips we use the same supplier to get our cabinets from. They are nice solid wood, soft close cabinets, with shaker style doors, and they come in limited colors. We pay on around $350-800 per cabinet (depending on the type of cabinet). But for a higher end kitchen renovation that we are doing, we are using custom made cabinetry with a design I made and a paint color I chose. These cabinets cost around $1,000 per cabinet.
To put it plainly, most people want to spend (or think they can spend) around $20K-$40K on their kitchen renovation for a fully remodeled space and that’s just not realistic! Even with non-custom cabinets. Guy and I renovated our kitchen for $40K in 2017 and that was with us doing almost all the work.
The number that we see most in our kitchen renovations is between $60K-$70K and that’s with modest finishes and appliances. That’s not to say that there aren’t ways to save on your kitchen renovation but these are the trends that we are noticing within our scope of work.
All that to say, if considering a big renovation make sure that you get MULTIPLE bids from contractors and builders from within your area before you get discouraged or settle on one. It’s important that you feel like whoever it is you choose to work with, they are able to execute your vision and jive with you personally (you will be spending quite a lot of time together in the months ahead and it’s important that you feel like you can connect personally).
