The Story Behind The $40 Twin Beds From Facebook

Wow. Wow. Wow. These beds. We just need to take a moment for these beds; for aesthetic AND entertainment purposes these beds deserve their story to be told! You see…the story goes like this:

I was looking for some vintage Jenny Lind beds for my girls room but my search was coming up empty handed, so I started expanding my options. I am a bit of a Facebook Marketplace junkie (don’t tell Guy) lol. I am always trying to discover rare finds for great deals and I’m not going to lie, I’ve gotten insanely lucky. Cse in point…this room is almost entirely furnished by Facebook Marketplace.

When I came across this pair of vintage arch beds (for $40 TOTAL mind you), I couldn’t help but see the endless possibilities! I snagged them as soon as I saw them!

I originally planned on sanding them down, and leaving them a natural wood and only painting the small edge work along the arches on both the headboard and footboard. So I got to work. I sanded everything down and exposed the beautiful grain beneath.

There was only one problem, the sanding ate through some of the veneer and left some imperfections in the wood grain fronts. I planned on bleaching the wood in hopes to subdue most of the inconsistencies. However, client projects continued to arise for us during that time and this project got pushed WAY to the backburner. Leaving these beauties in storage for a long time.

When I finally decided enough is enough, I enlisted the help of a local furniture refinisher to finish out the job. Although we tried to figure out a solution that would give me that natural wood grain front it just wasn’t in the cards for these guys. So we decided it would be just as equally beautiful to paint them instead. We ended up using Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Bedford for that perfect subdued green color that I love so much.

It’s funny….it seems DIY projects never go as planned but for some reason the journey along the way teaches you something so enriching that all the “headache” is worth it somehow in the end. You can see the full room makeover here! Until Next time!

Best, Tessa
