How To Create Texture & Layers In Your Entryway
When we started refinishing our floors back in March, I knew that the entryway was going to be next on our “to do” list. Why? Because entryways (IMO) are incredibly important. 1.) They are the first things people see when they walk into your home, and 2.) they set the tone for the rest of your house as well. Is it warm? Is it inviting? What does it say about YOU? These are all things that people notice when they walk into your house. Home isn’t just a home it’s a feeling right? So what do people FEEL when they walk into your home?
How To Create Texture & Layers In Your Entryway
For this space in our home, I wanted to create a feeling of warmth, coziness, and hospitality. And I wanted people to feel the intentionality of our home as well. So the best way for me to do all of that was to create texture and layers with my design choices and styling.
We first started by brightening up this space by refinishing the stair treds and painting the balusters, spindles and risers white. Then, ironically enough, we removed the texture from the textured walls. Textured walls seem to date most homes and ours was no different. It didn’t take a critical eye to see that these walls had some serious age on them. And what’s worse is they were also SPONGED on top of the texture (EWWWW right?).
Here’s a sneak peek of the BEFORE of this space:
Those two things alone completely transformed this space. However, if there’s one thing I know, its that time and time again, RUGS are the best thing to add texture to a space. So finding the perfect runner to compliment this space was crucial. THIS one by far exceeded my expectations.
Another thing I have learned is that accent walls are a simple and efficient way to add texture, and dimension to any space and should be used sparingly but intentionally. You don’t want your accent wall to overwhelm your space but to compliment your surrounding space. That’s why we added this vertical shiplap wall with peg rails in this area because it gives just enough texture and differentiation to this space without being this crazy, in your face accent wall that doesn’t quite fit the scale of the space.
Another layer that we added to this space was our vintage gallery wall going up our stairs. For so long, I wanted to implement some vintage prints into our home and I just never knew where. When we got the floors and walls refinished it all just kind of came together organically and I love it more than I thought I would.
And after all that, the styling just came together so perfectly. I knew I wanted a black accent table [THIS ONE HERE] to contrast all the light and bright tones. And I also knew that I wanted it to incorporate the dark tones from the vintage prints. After that all the little details just seemed to come together and I couldn’t be more happy with how it all turned out. Check out our other recent posts below!
