3 Ways I started Mixing Patterns & Color In My Home

As of late, mixing patterns has been my new found hobby it seems! And I’m not at all mad about it. But do you want to know something funny?? If you would have told me 2 years ago that I would be a “mix-master,” I would have laughed in your face because getting my brain to NOT coordinate anything was a major struggle! I was the queen of symmetry and matching! LOL!

So if you’re like me, there is hope for you yet!

Here are 3 ways I started mixing patterns and colors in my home:

1.) I started small… pillow covers kind of small. You can find some very affordable pillow covers on Amazon and it’s a great way to get a feel for (literally) throwing patterns together. I think you will be surprised by how much actually “goes” together.

2.) Then I moved on to an entire bed set; sheets, duvet, quilt, and shams. I love shopping through The Company Store because they give great ideas for sets that work well together!

3.) From there, I went on to window treatments (a little more nerve racking because it’s a bigger investment), and rugs! But once you feel confident with the small things, you’ve gotta challenge yourself to take a risk with the big. Window treatments and rugs are the real MVPs of rooms and create the most drastic change to a space!

After you’ve mastered these major items, then it’s time to learn about layering your space with texture which is another post all together! Most importantly, just have fun with it and don’t take yourself too seriously! You are going to love what you’re drawn to so stick with your gut!
