3 Super expensive Mistakes We’ve Made
If you’ve been here a while then you know that we run a business called Kindred Homestead that got started by us flipping homes as a sort of “side hustle” to Guy’s Real Estate career. But when that "side hustle” turned into a full on business we decided to truly join forces and help others achieve their dream homes as well.
However “glamorous” that may sound to all of you thinking you wish you could all leave your day jobs for a career working with your spouse…let me just implore you to think LOOOONNNGGG and hard about all of that. Because like MOST things in life…it’s not what it’s all cracked up to be.
We have made A LOT of mistakes along the way and continue to make LOTS of mistakes-each of which bring on a whole other layer to marriage. But you know what…it’s truly all about the journey and we can’t grow if we don’t fail right? So here is a look at our top 3 most expensive mistakes we’ve made:
No. 1 - Spending an entire year working on a house that we ended up profiting $0 on…
Yeah, that was just as painful as it sounds. And if you’re interested, you can read more about that entire story here {Closing Fogel & The $$ We Didn’t Make}
No. 2 - Buying 20 Gallons of the wrong color paint…
Can you imagine our surprise when we opened up that large 5 gallon bucket of paint to find the wrong color for our exterior paint job!? And then looking down at the 3 other 5 gallon buckets in the SAME (wrong) color….
Lesson learned…always write the name of each color under the sample you paint on the wall. SMH.
You can see that entire home (painted in the CORRECT color) over here!
No. 3 - Laying the wrong bathroom floor tile & having to rip it all up…
Ugh. These silly mistakes can be SO painful! In our last flip house, The Fogel Flip (which just seemed to be a constant source of pain for us), we had two upstairs bathrooms that were getting floor tile laid and somehow it was communicated that the floor tile for the master bathroom was the floor tile for the guest bathroom.
When I walked in to check in on the progress one day I was floored (no pun intended) to see the floors laid in the WRONG spaces!
They had to be ripped up and redone! Ugh!
