Resetting & Refreshing My Living Room

If you’re like me, you've taken all your Christmas decorations down (finally…although a few straggling remnants might still be popping up all around the house). And while you feel relieved to have everything taken down, you also might be feeling a sense of emptiness?? Like something is missing? My daughter said to me after we had taken the last tub of Christmas decor back to storage … “Mom…it feels way too empty! I don’t like it!” And I kind of agreed with her.

I recently heard on one of my favorite design podcasts called “Dear Alice” that one of the best ways to “fill the space” where your Christmas tree was is to add a larger plant in it’s place. There’s something about that spot where the tree is that just makes the space so cozy and lush and when we take it down it can feel empty and a little lifeless. So adding in some fresh greenery in it’s place is a great way to add a bit of life back to your space.

Another thing I like to do this time of year is swap out some of my decor! I’ll go “shopping” around the house and take pieces from my office and place it in a new spot in the living room. This makes the space feel fresh and new without spending any additional money! This year I took this vintage chinoiserie lamp (similar item) that I bought at an estate sale this past year and paired it with this gingham lampshade from Target and placed it on the sideboard under our TV. It immediately brightened this corner and gave it a fresh look and feel! You can do this with your mantle, side tables, coffee table and pillow covers!

I recently got a handful of new pillow covers for our living room space and I am in love with all the color and patterns! You can shop them HERE!

All in all, changing things up/moving things around plus adding in some fresh foliage is the perfect way to reset and refresh your living room after the holidays!
