DIY Art Deco TV Frame

I have wanted an ornate frame for our Samsung Frame TV since we first got it 2 years ago. But do you know how much those cost!?? Close to a THOUSAND dollars!!! Like why? But, totally NO judgement if you actually did spend a thousand dollars on a frame because let’s be honest…. they are GORGEOUS!

However, I couldn’t get Guy to budge on the matter and it only took 2 years of nagging to FINALLY convince him to build me one! So he worked his magic on this project and I wanted to share it with all of you! You can find the material list below and a set of instructions below that on how he put the frame together.

Material List:

Building the Frame:

  • First we measured our TV and figured out how much we wanted the frame to overlap our TV. We decided we wanted a 1/8” overlap on all sides.

  • Then we mitered the corners of our decorative moulding and glued + nailed our corners together.

  • Then we used our screen moulding, cut it down to match all sides of our decorative frame pieces (we used the screen molding to add additional depth to the frame to give it more of that “shadow box” look.

  • Next, we ripped our 1x2 to create 3/4” x 3/4” boards. We used these pieces as our “ledge” for the frame to hang on the TV. So we measured them to fit inside our screen molding. Then cut them down to size and attached the 3/4” pieces to the screen molding.

  • Then we made sure those pieces were secured to the decorative moulding. *You can find a picture of the back of the frame below these instructions for a better reference!

  • We wood puttied all nail holes and corners to create a more seamless look.

  • Then we went on to painting! I sprayed a base coat of Rustoeloum gold spray paint to start and then layered some “Rub-n-buff” paint in the color Gold Leaf on top to give it that extra vintage flair! And it was done! If you’d like a better step by step on the painting situation visit this REEL!
